Exercises on Adverb Clause

In each exercise, identify the adverb clause and its type. Here is a sample question answered for you:

Q. The company made a profit, even though sales were lower than anticipated.

A. The company made a profit, even though sales were lower than anticipated. [Adverb clause of concession]

Exercise 1

1. Although it was raining, we decided to go for a walk.

2. As soon as the sun rose, the birds began to sing.

3. As long as you finish your homework, you can watch TV.

4. She can stay at the party as long as she follows the rules.

5. So long as the project is completed on time, the client will be satisfied.

6. They were ready to leave, except the car wouldn’t start.

7. Nothing would please the audience but that the performer sing an encore.

8. She saved money diligently in order that she could buy her dream house.

9. As the company grows, its influence in the industry increases.

10. I would rather save money than spend it on unnecessary items.
